Volunteer

Volunteers and Coaches are an essential part of the operation of North Durham United FC. The Club relies on enthusiastic parent and youth volunteers to assist at the fields, to coach teams, and to manage teams or be convenors for the recreational age divisions.

Volunteers are also a welcome and valued asset in other areas, including our Event Days such as Opening Day/ Photo Day and the Closing Festival for our Recreational programs. We'll give you all the training and support you need!

With so many young children wanting to play soccer, our Volunteers are essential to providing adequate adult supervision and great mentoring at the fields. Our amazing volunteers are the cornerstone of the excellent soccer club programs in our north Durham communities.

Interested in Coaching?

If you wish to coach a team, you do not need to have been a soccer player yourself. The Club offers resources, training and orientation to interested adults and students (16+) to prepare you to coach a recreational team.

Sign up to volunteer in advance of the summer season by completing the Volunteer Application linked below, and we will get you trained and familiar with the requirements to coach a recreational youth team.  A Volunteer Meeting is scheduled for early May for all applicants.

Advanced training is also available:

North Durham United FC, in partnership with Canada Soccer, offers introductory coaching workshops to familiarize you with the basics of coaching players from age 4 through adult. Workshops are online and self-directed so that you can go at your own pace and learn the basics of the game and the 4-corners approach to coaching children in soccer.

For more information on the various introductory coaching courses, link HERE.

Note: Please complete Volunteer Registration and notify the Club Administration before completing a coaching workshop.

Recreational Youth Leagues:

Parent Helpers and Team Leaders/Co-Coaches provide supervision, guidance and encouragement for divisions U4 through U12.

With just a small commitment, starting at just 20-30 minutes per week, depending on the age group, you can help a group of young players enjoy the game. Practices are directed by our Practice Facilitator staff, so parent volunteers are able to simply help out by encouraging players through the drills and activities set our by our practice coaches each week and assist with taking Attendance. Other roles are also available to help keep teams on track, motivated and receiving important information.

Recreational Teen Divisions require Co-Coaches and Team Managers for our teams with players ages 11 - 21 yrs. Volunteers are required as Team managers - to take attendance and notify the team of any club communications. Co-Coaches assist with team practices and coach recreational games. Volunteer commitment is 2.5 hours per week (1 practice, 1 game, team communications).

Youth Volunteer Assistant Coach positions are available for youth 16-19 yrs.old who wish to co-coach with an adult volunteer in our younger age groups. Teens are also welcome to volunteer to help out during Club events. High School Community Service hours can be applied if the Club Administrator is advised.

Recreational Soccer Division Convenors
Each of the recreational age divisions runs smoothly thanks to our Division Convenors. Each season, one Convenor is sought per age division to help with the initial organization of the Division (in May/June) and to facilitate communications to players and their families throughout the season. This role is most active in May and early June, with limited duties for the remainder of the season. A basic application form is necessary. Please contact a Club Administrator to volunteer as a Division Convenor.

Competitive & Development Team Volunteers:

Our Competitive and Development teams each have a coach, assistant coach and a team manager. We welcome those interested in a coaching or team manager role to contact the Club in August annually to discuss opportunities to join a team in these leadership roles.

Please help us ensure that every team has a dedicated group of cheerleading parent leaders to encourage them from the bench throughout the season.

Sign up early, attend the spring Orientation meeting, and learn your role before the season starts.

Receipt of Recreational Volunteer Application Forms is appreciated on or before April 30th of each year for the regular summer season.

The following documents are provided as information only to inform you of what is asked in our online Volunteer Application.

Please apply to volunteer using the online application through the link provided above.

Further Volunteer Information is listed below.

Volunteer Application Form & Screening Requirements:

All volunteer roles are required to complete a Volunteer Application & Disclosure Form, every year, as part of our mandatory screening process. Children are a vulnerable sector and Club policy dictates appropriate screening of individuals to ensure the physical, emotional and mental health safety of our young players. This is similar to the process enacted at schools.

If you are new to the Club, volunteering for a team leadership role, you are also required to submit the New Volunteer Questionnaire, which is included in the online application.

Please Note: All volunteer coaches and team leaders for divisions U9 and older are required by Ontario Soccer to take the Respect in Sport Activity Leader online course. The Club will pay the course fee  as long as you contact the club in advance of taking the course.

Volunteer Orientation Meeting - Recreational Teams

All Volunteers assuming Recreational Co-Coach/Manager/Convenor roles (U8 -U21) are required to attend our annual pre-season Volunteer Orientation Meeting. This meeting is customarily scheduled in May and provides all volunteers with an Orientation and Training session, a review of all required forms and documents, and an opportunity to meet with technical staff and Club officials. These volunteer orientation sessions provide age-specific information important to all volunteers. Please plan to attend if you have signed up to volunteer.

High School Community Hours - Youth Volunteers:

North Durham United FC supports the Community Hours program and offers students a variety of volunteer tasks, including field work and event day assistance. Youth may also work as Youth Volunteers for the entire season, as co-coaches alongside an adult volunteer coach.

Students who volunteer for the Club, don't forget to check out the student scholarships:
